This Week in Year 3 each class had an educational day trip to a dairy farm.
In Geography, the Year 3 children have been learning about where our food comes from. We have learnt about the process of farm to fork; looking at producers and consumers; calculating food miles, looking at the effect of importing on our environment and some of the challenges local farmers face.
To enrich our learning experience, this week the Year 3 children had a day trip to a dairy farm. The children had a fabulous time in the cow classroom and learnt about the process of milking cows while exploring on the farm and visiting the milking parlour.
The children also learnt about worms and how they keep our soil healthy which means healthy grass for the cows to eat so they can produce delicious milk. We then experienced the process of making butter and we got to taste some butter on crackers that the children made themselves from the milk produced on the farm.
The most exciting part of our experience was meeting the cows and some new born calves. We were very lucky to see one calf take its first steps, minutes after being born.
The excitement of all the children demonstrated what a great experience they had and they were all very responsible and respectful, being great representatives for Boothville.Thank you to Farmer Barnes’ Dairy for the amazing experience.
