Welcome to 4M! All the class names in Year 4 are inspired by British artists. At the beginning of the year the children spent some time getting to know the artist their class is named after. 4M is named after William Morris.
William Morris was alive between 1834 – 1896 and he was involved with the Arts and Craft movement. He is famous for producing printed repeating patterns. Many of his designs are still used today on various items like furniture, curtains, wallpaper and stationery. He has famous pieces called Strawberry Thief and Willow Bough.
We experimented with some printing of our own in 4M! We began by learning all about Morris’ style and created designs inspired by his love of nature. We sketched out our own designs on paper and then carved them into a polystyrene tile.
Next, we used felt tip pens to colour in our designs and used a spray bottle of water to loosen the colours. This then produced some beautifully, bright prints.
We then used paint to do a single print onto a shared piece of work. Some prints didn’t go perfectly, but when put together, they make a fun and collaborative piece of art work that represents the whole class.
The children enjoyed learning about William Morris and should be proud of the artwork they produced.
